Assertiveness

WHO

All levels

This course is designed for line managers, team leaders, managers – or anyone who feels that they would benefit from being more assertive in the workplace – either as a leader who lacks confidence in their ability to manage a team, or as a team member who struggles to voice their needs and feels overlooked.

WHY

Assertiveness is important in any profession; some people, though, worry that assertiveness will be mistaken for aggression, or lack the confidence to firmly express what they mean and need in the workplace for fear of rocking the boat or upsetting others.

If you want to feel confident in voicing your opinions and your needs, and to communicate effectively without feeling anxious about pushing boundaries, this course will help you to identify where you struggle, and to overcome those sticking points.

Assertiveness is not about making demands of others, nor is it about managers dominating their teams–it is simply being able to firmly and clearly make requests, express needs and communicate with leaders and employees so that misunderstandings aren’t made, and everyone knows what is expected of them.

WHAT

Attendees to the Assertiveness course will come away able to:

  • Appreciate that everyone has assertive rights
  • Take a positive approach in communicating effectively
  • Improve your self-esteem
  • Appreciate which words to use to get the most out of interactions with others
  • Follow a set process for approaching situations in an assertive manner

HOW

This is a one-day workshop; the structure of the day covers all aspects of what assertiveness means, assessing personal experiences and concerns, and applying what is learned to attendee’s ongoing careers.

The day will include group work, personal reflection, and one-to-one discussions.

The learning is broken down into key topics, with opportunities for discussion, skills practice, and learning points.
