Stage-Based Behavioural Transformation

To truly transform an individual, a team or an organisation takes more than training that instils new skills and knowledge. Interventions that stimulate an appetite for change and sustain its momentum, support the acquisition of new behaviours, and discourage relapse are most likely to create enduring behaviour change.

We call our approach Stage-based Behavioural Transformation (SBT)® and we are indebted to eminent psychologists, James Prochaska, John Norcross and Carlo DiClemente. Their work in helping others overcome habituated behaviours showed us how individuals move through five emotional ‘stages’ as they seek to change ingrained and unhelpful behavioural patterns :

  • Precontemplation
  • Contemplation
  • Preparation
  • Action
  • Maintenance

Where change management focuses on the system, SBT® focuses on the individual and the interpersonal. We help leaders and managers in organisations around the world to acquire, practise and master the leadership behaviours that enable them to be more skilful and productive.
