Boost workplace confidence, and give your people the tools to be their best

Happy people perform better...

Every new role brings training – even if you’re hired as an expert, there will be specific tools, work habits or methods of reporting that are unique to where you work. In most circumstances, that means your new role will come with training (though I’m sure we’ve all had experiences where it never really materialised, and we have to work things out as we go!)

Let’s assume that the basic training happens – and once you’re settled in, you can plod on with your work, and use those specific tools. Training new starters is a fairly routine process – but in a lot of organisations, once that basic training is complete, and you’re performing adequately in whatever role it is…weeks, months, even years can quietly tick by, and you’re still doing the same things, in the same way!

You look around you, and the whole office is filled with people just…quietly getting on with things. Nobody is rocking the boat, there’s nothing wrong – but nobody is pushing any boundaries either.

We all know how important it is for the team to perform whatever tasks are expected of them – but what more could your people achieve if they were given the opportunity to grow? To build on those skills, expand their experience, gain more confidence and feel like their ambitions are important?

Studies into the impact of L&D consistently show that organisations that invest more into the learning and development of their team see a significantly higher profit margin compared to those who don’t invest in L&D at all.

Why does investing in L&D boost profits?

Happy people perform better!

That headline bears repeating – because it’s the core of everything we offer, and an undeniable fact. Happy people really do perform better.

We know that there’s so much more to success in the workplace – and to the training that guarantees it – than simply learning how to perform a role-specific task, or how to use the organisation’s chosen CRM. Training and development should never be limited to the bare minium, or merely showing employees how to use the equipment that’s relevant to their initial role. Your leaders should be developing the personal and professional skills of their people (and themselves!) – should be keen to improve people’s confidence, expanding their skills, and supporting their growth and career progress within the organisation.

It isn’t only technical skills or role-specific tasks that matter – if you commit to improving communication, professional skills and personal development goals, your employees will feel appreciated; they’ll see that you value them as individuals, not just commodities, and are willing to invest in their future. Feeling valued helps your people to feel far more confident and capable in their role, and in their ambitions for where they want to progress – and the pride from knowing you feel they are worth investing in in this way usually manifests in an equal commitment from your people, to their role and to planning their future within your organisation.

Any kind of investment in your people shows that you value them, that their well-being and job satisfaction matter to you, and that their leaders and managers recognise, and appreciate, their achievements.

Recognition and appreciation like that will ensure that your people are happier at work. Happy employees are far more likely to remain in your organisation – saving you the cost and time of high staff turnover, the dip in performance when you need to give new employees their initial basic training, and the ongoing negative impact from losing the talent, skills and experience of your best people. Happiness within your team means that they perform better, feeling confident and passionate, energised and enthused about their work. We’ll say it one more time; happy people perform better – and this shows, in every part of your organisation.

Why risk the impact of letting people tick along, or drift through their professional lives? Keep your people happy – and show them that you believe they are worth investing in; we promise that you will reap the rewards that confident, committed employees bring.

If you would like to give your people the best chance to perform well, and embed a culture where happy, confident people can thrive, we can help. How? Just ASK…
