Career Transition Coaching

Change is inevitable – but the outcomes are up to you

Career Transition Coaching

No matter who you are, one universal truth of life is change. Some we see coming, some sweeps us off our feet unexpectedly – but change itself is inevitable. How we manage and move through change is the difference between positive or negative outcomes – in our personal lives, and at work.

Business leaders (at least the good ones!) plan for the uncertain; for all possible outcomes, for the risks that balance our goals, with contingency plans for those variables – but the truth is that there are so many factors outside of our control – or even our awareness –  that nobody could ever truly plan for every possibility…so how do you plan for the unexpected?

Any transition in your career is a change; any promotion into a Leadership role, or to a more senior one, brings lots of changes. Someone who is promoted because they’ve shown expertise in their role will find that Leading a team is a very different kind of job. No matter how much of an expert you were, stepping up to a Leadership role requires new skills. For some people those skills are innate – but even the best Leaders benefit from deliberate learning or development.

Whether it’s an expected change or something that’s taken you by surprise, successfully navigating it relies on your ability to adapt, to try something different, to evolve and grow – individually and as a team. There will always be a new way, new technologies, new methods or understanding, and new faces leading change in your industry – and what has worked well before might not hold up to the new way of doing things. Whether it’s new tech, new research, new methods and approaches to your work or bigger shifts in the global culture and economy, your organisation – and your Leaders – need to embrace change, and all it might bring.

Facing that change successfully, embracing the positives and overcoming the challenges, isn’t always easy – but it is almost always worthwhile. Easy or not, if you want to be successful you need to take advantage of every tool available to you, and the support and experience of others.

Professional success does, of course, depend on your own ambitions, goals and efforts – but if you also embrace the guidance and support of others your chance of achieving the most positive outcome is significantly better.

Embracing Change - and all it brings - will open the door to a better future, no matter where your career takes you

Coaching and Success

Leadership is about far more than putting in the hours or telling people what to do; it’s about balancing the strengths of every person in your team, seeing the bigger picture, overcoming the unique challenges and changes that impact your people, your organisation and the industry you’re in. The transition from team member to team leader (whether it’s entry level supervision or entering the C suite) can be a steep learning curve, because Leading people well is entirely different to being a great part of any team – but Leadership skills can be learned.

Great Leaders might have come into their role with a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience that help them to do this new job well – but even the best know that they don’t have all the answers, and that there will always be more to learn, and others to learn from.

Learning, of course, doesn’t have to be formal – successful people are always learning, from their peers, their team, their competitors, or simply because time brings change in every area of our life – but to stay at the top it does make sense to embrace learning deliberately. One of the best ways to do this is with a Professional Coach.

Coaching comes in many forms – and we know, from delivering Coaching to thousands of Leaders and Executives over more than thirty years, that it’s by far the best investment you could make in your own development and success. Coaching gives you – and your team – the best impact, with the most significant development and growth in the skills and outcomes you’re working towards, bringing you the best return on your L&D investment.

There are countless reasons that people look for professional Coaching – but it usually comes down to change. A positive change you want to achieve, or a negative change you want to overcome. Either way, change is the cause and desired outcome.

Are you working towards a promotion? Is your organisation restructuring – shifting the roles, looking at making redundancies, or merging with another? Do you want to build on the skills and experience that take your career to the next phase? No matter what the change is, navigating it will bring new challenges alongside positive change. Maintaining your performance through those changes, delivering on the usual work goals and outcomes while you try to navigate the new aspects, the shifting landscape and dynamics in your team, who are also facing change, can feel overwhelming.

Those challenges come on both huge and miniscule scales, all at once. Global change, organisational change, personal change – it all matters, and whether it’s global impact or the microcosm of your own individual influence, an experienced and supportive Coach will be able to guide your process, improve your progress, and unlock your potential.

Leaders and Managers in every industry have seen huge change in recent years. Economies that soar or crash. Legislation and leadership that may not align with your personal values. Technological and cultural developments that used to shift with every new generation seem to be in fast forward. Predicting and planning for the future seems to keep getting harder, while we race to keep up with what’s happening today!

Trying to achieve all of that without letting the standard of work you achieve drop, letting down clients, meeting targets and keeping our people happy adds all kinds of pressures to work – and we do it all with the added stress of managing everything that comes up in our own personal life, family, health, wealth, wellbeing and needs.

Coaching is the key to your unlocking your potential

Coaching with ASK

No matter where you work, or what stage you are at in your career, it’s important that everybody in your organisation is supported properly, so that they can navigate change successfully – whether the change is good or bad. Some approach this through mentoring from within the existing team, and others bring in experts. Professional Coaches, who can support the current and future leaders of your organisation. In truth, it’s the combination of both that will see your whole team through whatever is coming…but why?

Because when you work with a Coach, it isn’t just the Coachee who benefits!

Working with your coach means that you learn, improve, develop new skills and explore different ways of working – but it also means that everything you learn goes with you, back into the office, into how you work with your team, how you communicate, how you process things, the culture and experience of your work, not just the work itself. All of that influences the people around you too (in your work life and your personal life!) – and often the best way for new learning to stick is to share it with others. In other words, mentoring your people as you grow!

We have a team of Coaching professionals from different backgrounds, all with years of experience and expertise in supporting people through periods of transition, and the complex changes that they may have to face. We don’t just pull one off the list at random; we explore what you need, the challenges you are facing, the issues you want help with, all the skills and experiences that got you this far, and then we look at your own perspective compared with how the people around you perceive you. We take all of this insight and pick the best person for you; the Coach who will understand you, will best support your development, and who will get the best out of you in the process. Our Transition Coaches specifically work with you when you’re facing the most difficult periods of change, whether that’s in your own career or for your organisation as a whole. An expert, who’s walked this path before, who has seen it all before, and who understands how to take you from here to there – wherever ‘there’ might be.

Coaching is an intensive process – it can be challenging too; truly understanding who you are, how you function, the skills you take pride in and the areas you know you could do better, it’s sometimes hard – but it’s worth it, to see real change, real growth, and real, lasting improvement in every aspect of your work (and your life!). Your Coach is there every step of the way, with advice, support, tools and insight that not only give you everything you need to meet whatever challenge you’re facing now, but every possible future.

If you want that future to be bright, we can help. How?
