Behind that locked door - Venture, November 2009
Robert Terry argues that , when money is tight and organisations are making tough decisions, managers who cannot work effectively with all of their colleagues will not be able to elicit the discretionary effort that can make the difference. His conclusion:
"Managers who reserve the right to pursue their own particular way of doing things, carrying only the one key, will always remain just that – managers. Those that strive to develop self awareness, thoughtfulness, and selflessness will always have many keys at their disposal. And we will call them leaders.”
